4. Use of Cookies

4.1. Definition

A “cookie” is a text file that is placed on your hard disk by a Web server. Cookies are not used to run programs or deliver viruses to your computer. Cookies are uniquely assigned to you and can only be read by a Web server in the same domain that issued the cookie to you. One of the primary purposes of a cookie is to provide a convenience feature to save you time.

4.2. Themes

One of the features for which I make use of a cookie is to keep track of a Theme if you choose one. This cookie will remember which Theme you like so you won’t have to go through the process every time you return to the site. It is also used to ensure you have thematic consistency from page to page throughout the site. This cookie is set to expire one year after you set it. If you chose a different theme, this cookie will be overwritten and the expiration date will be reset to one year from the date you chose the theme.

4.3. Bookmarks

The other feature which involves cookies is the setting of a bookmark within a story. When you click on a paragraph in a story you will be prompted to either “Set” or “Reset” a bookmark, depending on whether or not a cookie exists for that story. You can have one bookmark per story and these cookies keep track of where you were in each story, so you can return to the same spot in the story if you leave. If you click on a story for which you have already set a bookmark, you can choose to reset or delete it. These cookies are also set to expire one year after you set them and the timer starts over if you reset the bookmark.

4.4. Accepting Cookies

You have the ability to accept or decline cookies. Most Web browsers automatically accept cookies, but you can usually modify your browser setting to decline cookies if you prefer. If you decline cookies, you won't be able to set any bookmarks and the site won't remember which Theme you prefer, but those will be the only features affected.

5. Anti-SPAM Policy

I do not send SPAM. Ever.
